Response-Ability: The Ability to Respond

We say "responsibility" like it's a weight. But break the word open and you find something lighter and more powerful: response-ability, the ability to respond.

Kids don't need perfect parents. They need parents who can notice what they feel, pause, and choose a response instead of a reaction.

Try this tonight: Name it, tame it, frame it

  1. Name it. Say what you feel out loud: "I'm frustrated right now." Naming a feeling lowers its intensity.
  2. Tame it. Take three slow breaths before you speak. Your child learns calm by watching yours.
  3. Frame it. Choose your words: "I'm frustrated, and I still love you. Let's figure this out together."

That's response-ability. That's how whole families are built, one moment at a time.
